NEWARK, N.J. - August 10, 2000 - IDT Corporation (NASDAQ: IDTC) today announced that its 5 cents a minute long distance service plan has reached the 100,000 enrollment milestone and is signing up new customers at a rate averaging 1,200 a day. IDT is a leading multinational carrier, telephone company and Internet service provider.
"This is such an incredible offer, the hardest part of selling the service is convincing people it's for real," said Howard Jonas, IDT's Chairman and CEO. "But once we do, the response among customers is amazing. In just six months of offering our flat-rate long distance plan, IDT has exceeded all its initial projections and is signing up more customers each day, with higher average revenues and lower costs per acquisition than anyone here had anticipated."
IDT's flat rate long distance plan, introduced on February 10th, 2000, provides customers with interstate calling rates of only 5 cents a minute to anywhere in the continental United States, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is one of the most competitive plans in the country, and is available in most areas across the nation. On April 12th of this year, IDT announced it was launching an expanded multimedia marketing campaign for its long distance service, following two months of strong in-market results.
Another key advantage of IDT's long distance service is its low-rate calling card, which enables subscribers to place domestic long distance calls away from home for only 10 cents a minute, to anywhere in the continental U.S., 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no additional fees.
"IDT has proven we can establish a profitable and growing long distance business based on the robustness of our 5 cents a minute plan, without having to lure people with gimmicks or other expensive promotions," said Jim Courter, President of IDT. "Even with industry margins on the decline, IDT is demonstrating that long distance service is a viable and growing market for us. By leveraging our efficient network operations and minimal overhead, IDT is able to offer an essential service to our customers at the most competitive rates around."
IDT's long distance enrollees also add to the Company's rapidly growing base of residential customers, which IDT is leveraging to grow and strengthen customer relationships by cross-selling other highly competitive communication and Internet products and services.
"IDT has worked hard to become a total solutions provider," continued Howard Jonas. "No matter what your communications needs are - long distance service, free Internet access, digital subscriber lines, cellular phone and paging services, or retail and rechargeable calling cards - IDT has the answer."
